Biography

John Marjoram, son of Thomas Margoram and Priscilla (Christiana) Hewitt was baptised on the 22nd of August 1806 at Attleborough, Norfolk, England.

On the 9th of June 1829 John married his first wife Lydia Leeder in Attleborough, Norfolk. The marriage was witnessed by Elizabeth Leeder who is presumably a relative of the bride.

Between 1829 and the end of 1831 John and Lydia had 2 children; John who did not survive his infancy and James who survived. Lydia appears to have passed away between the 4th quarter of 1829 and 1836 when John married his second wife.

John married his 2nd wife, Sarah Kerrich, on the 22nd of July 1836 at Carleton Rode, Norfolk, At this time John was a Widower and the marriage was witnessed by Christopher Kerrich who was a member of the bride's family.

For the 1841 Census John, his wife Sarah, and children James, Eliza and Rebecca were living in New Buckenham, Norfolk.

In 1858 John and 3 friends (one of which may have been his brother Robert) were charged, sentenced and fined at Norwich Castle, Norfolk on the 10th of March 1858. The charge was Assault and they were found guilty, sentenced to 14 days and each given a Five Pound fine.

By 1861 the family was back in Attleborough, Norfolk. John and Sarah had their 2 youngest children, John and Rebecca, still living at home.

John Marjoram passed away in 1862 and was buried from the Attleborough, Norfolk parish church on the 31st of August 1862.

Research Notes

As of February 2022 records relevant to the women John married have not been found apart from the marriage ceremonies themselves. Each bride had a witness to her marriage to John that was probably a family member. i.e. Lydia Leeder's witness was Elizabeth Leeder and Sarah Kerrich's witness was Christopher Kerrich.
