When Caroline Egleston Marlen was born on July 18, 1849, her father, William Riggs Marlen, was 41, and her mother, Jane (Gant) Marlen, was 34. She married John Abram Elliot on August 26, 1869, in Chester, Illinois. They had eight children in 12 years. She died on February 27, 1931, in Altoona, Kansas, at the age of 81, and was buried in Wilson, Kansas.
