Hattie (Marsh) Burns was born in Michigan.

Hattie, daughter of George W. Marsh and Mary Catherine Goens,[1] was born 24 October 1878 in Pleasanton Township, Manistee County, Michigan.[1]

Residence (1880) Pleasanton, Manistee, Michigan George (age 45, farmer, b. Virginia) and Mary Marsh (39, b. Virginia), Ardella (16, b. Virginia), Sarah M. (13, b. Ohio), Cora (10), John W. (9), Mathew (8), Clara (6), George W. (3), Hattie (2) and Warner Marsh (one month).[2] Cora and all younger children were born in Michigan.[2]

Her father died in 1892.[3]

Residence (1900) Pleasanton Township, Manistee, Michigan Mary C. Marsh (age 60, farmer on own land, mother of 12, eight living, b. West Virginia), John W. (29, farm laborer), Matthew (28, farm laborer), Clara Lavina Davis (26, mother of two, both living), Hattie (22, servant), Warner (20, farm laborer), Frank E. (19, farm laborer), Jessie Lee (15, at school), Henry Allen Davis (38, woods laborer, b. Ohio), and Henry's children Rudolph (7), Delia May (4) and Amine Naomie Davis (1).[4] All except Mary C. Marsh and Henry Davis had been born in Michigan.[4] While Mary, John and Matthew were illiterate, the other teens and adults could both read and write.[4]

On 30 December 1905 in Homestead, Benzie County, Michigan, she married Roland R. "Rolly" Burns,[5] son of Asa "Joseph' Burns and Mary Adeline Hosey/House.[5] They had six children:

  2. Elsie (Burns) Sanders Allen (1908–1933).[6][7][11][12]
  3. Stillborn Daughter Burns (1910–1910).[13]
  4. Bert Edward Burns (1913–1989).[7][14][15][16]
  5. Leo Burns (1915–Deceased).[7][17]
  6. Living Burns.[17]
