Azariah was born in Albemarle, Virginia on 11 Jan 1751.[citation needed] He was the son of James Martin and Elizabeth Crawford. He married Mary Rodes in Amherst, Virginia on 19 Mar 1772.[1] He wrote his will in Nelson, Virginia on 31 Jan 1823 and died there sometime before it was probated on 26 Jul 1824.[2]
