Biography

Marion M. Martin was born on 27 Apr 1851 in Orleans, Indiana; [1] he was the son of John H. Martin and Elizabeth Mavity.[2] [See Research Notes below regarding middle name.]

In 1860,[2] Marion M. Martin (age 9, born Indiana) was living in Paoli Township, Orange County, Indiana in the household of his father, John H. Martin (age 34, born Indiana), with his mother, Elizabeth Martin (age 31, born Indiana), and his Martin siblings, all born in Indiana (age, sex): ii) James W. (7, M), iii) Emma O. (4, F), iv) Rufus Martin (2, M); also in the household were Sarah Mavity (age 68, born Kentucky) and Michael Mavity (age 26, born Indiana). John's occupation was a farmer; he owned real estate valued at $3000, and personal estate valued at $300.

In 1870,[3] Marion Martin (age 17, born Indiana) was living in Paoli Township, Orange County, Indiana in the household of his father, John Martin (age 45, born Indiana), with his mother, Elizabeth Martin (age 40, born Indiana), with his Martin siblings, all born in Indiana (age, sex): ii) James (15, M), iii) Oliver (13, M), iv) Rufus (11, M), v) Oscar (9, M), vi) Samuel E. (7, M), vii) Sarah F. (6, F); also in the household were Sarah Mavity (age 71, born Kentucky) and Michael Mavity (age 35, born Kentucky). John's occupation was a farmer.

On 17 May 1873 in Orange County, Indiana,[4] Marion M. Martin married Malinda W Marshal.

In 1880,[5] Marion Martin (age 29, born Indiana) was living in French Lick, Orange County, Indiana as head of household with his wife, Milinda [sic] Martin (age 22, born Indiana), with their Martin children, born Indiana (age, sex): i) Alva A. (3, F), ii) Lawrence (8/12, M); also in the household were Ables children: iii) "Girl" (6, F), iv) "Boy" (4, M). Marion's occupation was a farmer.

In 1900,[6] Marion M. Martin (age 49, born Apr 1851 in Indiana) wa sliving in Monroe Township, Howard County, Indiana as head of household with his wife of 27 years, Malinda W. Martin (age 45, born Mar 1855 in Indiana), with their Martin children, born Indiana (age, birth month year, sex): i) Tressie F. (18, Mar 1882, F), ii) Claude E. (9, Sep 1891, M). Marion's occupation was a farmer. Malinda had born 5 children, 4 of whom were currently living.

In 1905,[7] M. M. Martin (age 54, born Indiana) was living in Beloit City, Rock County, Wisconsin as head of household with his wife, Melinda W. Martin (age 50, born Indiana), with their Martin children, born Indiana (age, sex): i) Tressie F. (23, single, F), ii) Claude E. (13, M). Their occupations were: a) Marion - day laborer; b) Tressie - stenographer.

In 1910,[8] Marion M. Martin (age 58, born Indiana) was living in Kokomo City, Center Township, Howard County, Indiana as head of household with his wife, Malinda Martin (age 55, born Indiana), with their son, Claude E. Martin (age 18, single, born Indiana). Martion's occupation was a laborer in a factory. Malinda had born 4 children, all of whom were currently living.

In 1920,[9] Marion M. Martin (age 68, born Indiana) was living in Kokomo City, Howard County, Indiana as head of household with his wife, Malinda Martin (age 64, born Indiana). Marion's occupation was a tester at an auto factory.

In 1930,[10] Marion Martin (age 78, born Indiana) was living in Center Township, Howard County, Indiana as head of household with his wife, Malinda Martin (age 75, born Indiana). Their occupations were "none".

Marion M. Martin died on 24 April 1938 in Kokomo, Center Township, Howard County, Indiana. [1] The cause of death was due to acute coronary occlusion, which was due to chronic myocarditis. Marion was born on 27 Apr 1851 in Orleans, Indiana; his parents were John Martin and _____ Mavity. Marion's usual occupation was a horticulturist; his usual address had been R.F.D. #1, Kokomo, Center Township, Howard County, Indiana. Marion was married at the time of his death to Melinda W. Martin. The informant for the death certificate was [his son] Claude E. Martin, who resided in Chicago, Illinois. Marion was buried in the Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery, Kokomo, Howard County, Indiana, USA. [11]
