Biography

Domingo Martín Serran was married to Josefa (de) Herrera. A witness in 1694, he declared he was born in Santa Fé, giving his age as forty-seven in that year, and a eighty in 1726. He died at the age of ninety on February, 27 1735.

His known children are:

  1. Diego, who married Pascuala (de) Soto at Santa Cruz in 1694
  2. María, wife of Juan Luján;
  3. Blas, who married Rosa (de) Vargas Machuca in 1705
  4. Matías, husband of Josefa Luján Domínguez.

He escaped the Pueblo Revolt of 1680, and returned to New Mexico with his family in 1693 as part of the Diego (de) Vargas group of settlers

Census: El Paso Area Muster, Dec 1692-Jan 1693, Pueblo la Ysleta del Sur, Nuevo Méjico. Nueva España.

Fourth household, four sons, four daughters
Domingo Martín, married to Josefa Herrera, with eight children, named Diego, age twenty-two, Matías, sixteen; Miguel, nine; Blas, six; Sebastiana, thirteen; María, twelve; Juana, fourt; and Bárbar, nuring; and his mother-in-law, named Juana (de) los Reyes. He states that, as his majesty's loyal vassal, he will go to settle with his family, if there is provisioning for it.[1]

Research Notes

  1. María Juana García de los Ríos was married to Francisco Martín Serrano, Domingo's nephew. There is no evidence that she was ever married to Domingo. I am detaching her as his wife.
