Leonard Maskery was born on about 4 February 1889. He was the son of Alfred Maskery and Elizabeth Edwards.

Leonard emigrated from England to New Zealand on the ship Iconic, departing on 11 November 1910 bound for Wellington.
He married Harriet Jane Coley (the daughter of Elizabeth Jane Williams and James Bernard French) in 1916 in Shannon.
They had two children:
Leonard was working as a Carpenter when the 1st World War broke out. He enlisted and served as a Private in the NZ Expeditionary Forces. His next of kin was recorded as Mrs H. Maskery (wife), care of Dr Hooper, Dentist, Broad Street, Palmerston North, New Zealand. Service No: 3/3833

He returned from the War.
In the 1922 New Zealand, Electoral Rolls (1853-1981), Leonard Maskery was recorded living at Bath Street East, Levin with his wife Harriet Maskery. He was employed as a Carpenter.
He and his wife jointly ran a cake shop in Cuba Street, Palmerston North. Leonard become estranged from his wife and they parted company in about 1930[1]. Leonard offered her £312 in full settlement of all maintenance claims she might make, and half of the proceeds from the sale of their cake shop in Cuba Street, Palmerston North.
His ex-wife Harriet died in 1937 as a result of a plane crash in Australia.
He married, secondly, widow Clara Louise Pussell in 1939.
In the 1946 New Zealand, Electoral Rolls (1853-1981), Leonard Maskery was recorded living with his wife Clara Maskery at 17 Jickell Street in Palmerston North where he was employed as a Joiner.
His second wife Clara passed away in 1949.
In the 1963 New Zealand, Electoral Rolls (1853-1981), Leonard Maskery was recorded living at 146 College Street, Palmerston North, retired.
He passed away on 20 February 1967 at the age of 78 and was cremated. His ashes were interred on 1 March 1967 at Kelvin Grove Cemetery & Crematorium, Palmerston North, New Zealand[2][3]. Area in Cemetery: D, Cemetery Block: 01A, Plot Location: 037
