Biography

William was born in 1720 in Hope Plantation, Stafford County, Virginia. He was the son of Daniel Matheny and Mary (Routt) Matheny.^[1][2] William died in 1719 in Valley, Botetourt, Virginia, United States.^[3]

STAFFORD COUNTY VA DEED Bk P p102, 103 William inherited Hope Plantation that had been purchased in 1683 by his great-grandfather Daniel. He sold 100 acres to Job Sims on 9 Oct 1752; leased 200 a. to Thomas Matheny and 500a were sold 31 Jul 1756 by Wm. and Ann Matheny, Job and Ursula Sims and Thomas Matheny to John Peyton, William and family then moved to the Shenandoah Valley.
