Note NI03083William began work as a pitboy in the coal mines in Durham, England. He arrived in Australia on the ship "Red Jacket" in 1855. He became manager of the Madam Berry Coal Mine in Piggoreet (Ballarat) up until 1889. Following that he retired to 50 Verdon Street, Williamstown where he died on 28 October 1915.
