Biography
John Maxwell and Agnes Irving had an only son, JOHN MAXWELL of Bamcleuch. He was served heir to his grandfather on 11th February 1665. He was nominated Provost of Dumfries in 1686.
He married, on 15th June 1665, 7 Margaret, daughter of John lrving of Friars Carse, Provost of Dumfries, and Elizabeth Crichton, his wife, who was a daughter of Sir Robert Crichton of Ryehill, brother of the Earl of Dumfries. On 28th September 1714, he was infeft in the lauds of Friars Carse on Precept by John Laurie of Maxwell, who apprised these lands from John Irons. [1]
