John McCarthy was probably born in Ireland in the mid-19th century. His family came from Ireland to America around 1850.[1] His sister Bridget resided in Baltimore, Maryland from at least 1870, so John may have been there too.[2] John was still alive when his sister Bridget died on 3 December 1904.[3]
1870 US Census - John McCarty, Age 32 is enumerated in his household with his wife, Ellen, Age 33, both of Ireland, in Baltimore, Maryland and their children: John, Age 3; Mary., Age 1
Someone noted a discrepancy in ages in the 1870 and 1880 Census for John's sister, Bridget that made me take another look. This John McCarty is a next door neighbor of the Tuttle which leads me to suspect that is her brother. There is also this on the 1880 census[4]
1880 US Census - Michael Riley, Age 43 is enumerated in his household with his wife, Mary, Age 43, both of Ireland, in Baltimore, Maryland and their daughter, Kate, Age 16. Also present are Bridget McCarthy, Age 75 and Martin McCarthy Age 36, both of Ireland
Could he widowed Bridget in the 1880 Census be John's mother?
