Came to Christchurch New Zealand in 1863 on HM Huntress, at age 18 with Duncan McLaren, aged 25. Arrived 21 April 1863. They were both shepherds from Perth. [2]
He married Lavinah Sellars on 17 Jun 1873 at The Manse, Christchurch, NZ [4]
William died 17 Sep 1915 and was buried on 19 Sep 1915 at Mt Somers[5]. Retired Farmer. Probate lodged 1915 - Executors Alexander Boyd and Samuel Raymond. Estate was to be divided between children - Donald McLaren, Euphemia Boyd, Jessie McLaren, Duncan McLaren, William McLaren, John McLaren, Edith McLaren, and Walter McLaren [6]
