Biography

1776 Project
Edward McMillin Sr served with Civil Service, Virginia during the American Revolution.
Daughters of the American Revolution
Edward McMillin Sr is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A078350.

Edward McMillin was born about 1735 in Augusta county, Virginia. At the time of the American Revolutionary War, Edward was residing in Botetourt county, Virginia, which was founded in 1770 from Augusta county. In 1783, Edward was commissioned as the Surveyor of Road for Botetourt County. [1]

Edward is honored for his Civil Service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A073850. His records are found under the surname "McMullen" with a disclaimer, "As such, the DAR assigns a single standard surname that covers variant spellings of similar surnames. While the surname may appear incorrect, this does not mean it is in error. This spelling system ensures that patriots are not established under more than one spelling."

DAR records indicate that Edward died before June 10, 1788, in Botetourt county and that he was twice married. The name of his first wife is not given. The name of his second wife is Sarah Robinson. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of his son, Edward, who married Sarah Reed; and Sampson, who married Martha (?nee); and of his daughters, Esther; and Sarah, who married Edward Tate. [2]

Edward McMullin is found in the marriage record of his daughter Sarah McMullin, who married Edward Tate, on January 8, 1786, in Botetourt county, Virginia. [3]

Edward McMullin, II married Sarah Reed on March 14, 1788, in Botetourt county, Virginia. Sarah is the daughter of William and Ruth Reed. [4]

Mc Mullin-22 and McMullen-406 appear to represent the same person because: Spelling variation is only difference.
