Biography

George McKee was born in Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada on 4 Aug 1832. His parents, Archibald "Archie" McKee and Margaret Whiteside were from County Antrim, Ireland and came to Ontario, Canada about 1827.

George, a farmer, married Margaret Isobel Milne about 1855 in Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada when he was 23 and she was 21. Margaret, born 27 September 1834 in Montrose, Angus, Scotland, was daughter of Charles Milne (1803-1868) and Elizabeth Ross (1812-1897) of Scotland.

George and his wife were members of the Church of England, known as Anglicans. Anglicans and Catholics were one in the same until Henry VIII broke from the Catholic Church. The difference is that the Anglican Church eschews hierarchy while the Catholic Church embraces it. In addition the Church of England allows married clergy. Much of the mass is the same, but Catholics believe the bread and wine is actually the body and blood of Christ. [1]

In 1861 the McKees were residing in Peel, Wellington, Canada West with their three children. By 1886 they would have eight more children all born in Ontario, Canada. The youngest, Caroline, was born when her mother was 53 years old.[2]

In 1900 George and Margaret were living in Kinross, Chippewa, Michigan with their youngest child, Caroline who was fourteen years old.
