Biography

Reason Meador was the son of Joel Meador, named in his father's probate records.[1]At that time, 19 August 1847, Reason, his sister Elizabeth and brother James were all over 21, meaning that they were all born before late 1826. His sister Elizabeth was born about 1824, and James was named before his brother Reason, suggesting he was the older of the two brothers. That plus information in the 1830[2] and 1840 US Census[3]records, suggest Reason was probably born sometime around 1825 or 1826. He would have been born in Anson County, North Carolina, where his father was living.

Reason no doubt went to Sumter County, Alabama with his father, who was there by 1840.[3] Reason was said to be living in Sumter County in August 1847, [1] and appears in the 1850 US Census in Sumter County, living by himself.[4]
