Biography

ELIZABETH MERRICK,[1] born at Methuen, 4 Mar 1772[2] daughter of Jacob Merrick and Judith Barker;[3] Elizabeth died at New Hampton, New Hampshire, 12 Aug 1866;[4] married at New Hampton, 10 Dec 1796,[5] BAILEY WEBSTER, born at Salem, New Hampshire, 1 Dec 1773 son of Nathan Webster and Hannah Bailey;[6] Bailey died at New Hampton (burial at Bristol, New Hampshire), 1818.[7]

Elizabeth Merrick and Bailey Webster resided at Hopkinton and New Hampton, New Hampshire.

In 1810, the household of Bailey Webster was six persons at New Hampton: one male 26 to 44, two females 26 to 44, two males under 10, and one female under 10.[8] In 1820, widow Elizabeth Webster headed a household of four persons at New Hampton: one female 45 and over, two males 10 to 15, and one female 16 to 25.[9]

On 24 November 1826, Jacob Webster of New Hampton with his wife Joanna, in consideration of two hundred dollars, quitclaimed to Ira Webster of New Hampton his fourth-part share of a tract of land in New Hampton from the estate of Bailey Webster. On 16 November 1824 (two days before her marriage), Harriet Webster of New Hampton quitclaimed her fourth-part share to Ira Webster for payment of two hundred and fifty dollars.[10]

In 1860, Elizabeth Webster was living at Alexandria in the home of her son Ira and his wife Mary.[11]

There are records of four children of Elizabeth Merrick and Bailey Webster.

i IRA WEBSTER, b. at Hopkinton, 29 Aug 1800; d. at Bristol, NH, 10 Jan 1869; m. 12 Nov 1829, MARY WELLS, b. at Bridgewater, NH, 13 Mar 1793 daughter of Peter and Hannah (Blake) Wells;[12] Mary d. at Bristol, 22 Feb 1866.

ii HARRIET WEBSTER, b. at New Hampton, 10 Nov 1802; d. at Alexandria, NH, 28 Mar 1849; m. at New Hampton, 18 Nov 1824, JONATHAN FERRIN, b. at Alexandira, 7 Apr 1798 son of Enos and Judith (Corliss) Ferrin;[13] Jonathan d. at Temple, NH, 18 May 1882. Jonathan married second Parshandatha Ray Sanborn.

iii JACOB WEBSTER, b. at New Hampton, 29 Aug 1805; d. at Caledonia, MN, 26 Oct 1873; m. at Bristol, NH, 23 Mar 1826, JOANNA LOCKE, b. at Bristol, 6 Apr 1807 daughter of Benjamin and Hannah (Favour) Locke; Joanna d. at Caledonia, 1 Nov 1892.

iv BAILEY WEBSTER, b. at New Hampton, 1 Mar 1808; d. after 1850 when living at Lafayette, LA;[14] m. 1st at Bristol, 22 Oct 1829, SUSANNAH CUMMINGS, b. at Bridgewater, NH, 23 Jun 1811 daughter of Andrew and Hannah (Crawford) Cummings. Bailey seems to have marriage second MARGARET who was not identified but born in Louisiana about 1830 (census record). In 1850, Bailey Webster born in New Hampshire, aged 40, was living in Lafayette with Margaret, aged 20, and daughters Harriet aged 2 years and Nancy aged 3 months.
