Biography
Deliverance was born about 1775. She passed away after 1816.
Birth
- No record has been found of the birth of Deliverance Merry. Banks' History of Martha's Vineyard lists her third among the children of Matthew Merry and Elizabeth (Chase) Merry of Tisbury, Massachusetts, who were married in December 1767,[1] and she married in 1798, so 1775 is a reasonable estimate for her birth date.
Marriage
- Deliverance "Delia" Merry married William Chenery at Jay, Maine (then in Massachusetts) on 14 Feb 1799. [2] See the Research Note on William's profile for a discussion of the marriages of William Chenery and a list of the children of William and Delia Chenery.
Death
- No record has been found of the death of Delia (Merry) Chenery. However, there is a woman listed in the 1830 census of her stepson/nephew William (Jr.) who was very likely Delia. (William the elder is listed as well.) This woman is no longer listed in 1840. (The elder William still is, which gives credence to the 1840 death date over the often-cited 1838 death date.)
