Biography

William Miller was born in Oswego, Stephenson, Illinois. He and his family moved to Clinton Co. Ohio about 1849 where he was raised. In June, 1862, William enlisted in Company C, 79th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry but was released when he became ill.

Once home, he married Rachel Louise Moore (1862) and farmed at his father's place until his father gave him 50 acres of land to farm on his own. Later, he moved to Sabina, Ohio where he manufactured tile under the name "Sabina Tile Works". After 7 years, he sold the business and started a butcher shop that he worked for 14 years.

William then moved to Springfield, Ohio and then on to Bowersville, Ohio, and then bought 100 acres in Washington Tp., Clinton, Ohio. He grew the best strawberries in the area and became known as "Strawberry Miller". In 1896, William Miller was elected county commissioner of Clinton County. The children of William and Rachel are:

The last years of his life were spent in Wilmington, Ohio. He's now buried in Wilmington, Sugar Grove Cemetery.
