Biography

Hugh Moloney is an Anzac who served in World War One.

Hugh Moloney died of illness at Queensland during The Great War.

Hugh enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force for service overseas during the First World War and was allocated to the newly-formed 42nd Australian Infantry Battalion.^[2] Whilst the battalion was still in its training stages, Hugh passed away of pneumonia on 9th May 1916 at its Enoggera base, Queensland. He is buried in the Roman Catholic Section of the Gleneagle Cemetery, Gleneagle, Queensland.^[3] Hugh Patrick Moloney's name is located at panel 135 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra.^[4]

Although Hugh did not embark for overseas or see action, he is entitled to be known as an ANZAC, although it would be incorrect to call him a returned serviceman.
