Biography

John Moore was born around 1740 (estimated based on wife born around 1745).

His parents are unknown, but his grandfather was Reverend William Moore of County Wexford (based on being a 1st cousin of his wife).

Unsourced: He was born Morocco.[1] This may imply that his father was in the Royal Navy.

He married his 1st cousin[2] Mary Anne Moore (same last name). [3]

Their children were named Ogle because Mary Ann's sister Elizabeth Moore and Elizabeth's husband George Ogle had no children.

Their children were:

  • 1765 Major General Sir Lorenzo Moore. [4]
  • Lieutenant Ogle Moore, Royal Navy. [1]
  • Oliver Moore.[1] (Possibly the Oliver Moore who was assistant to George Moore.[3])
  • John Moore. [1]
  • 1778 George Ogle Moore. Fifth son. [3]

"John was deputy registrar of deeds[5] in Ireland, and presumably owed his appointment to his brother-in-law George Ogle, Member for county Wexford" [3]

He resided Summerhill, Dublin. [3]

"On the death in 1799 of John, whose will was proved in Dublin that year[5], he was succeeded as deputy registrar by [his son] George Moore" [3]

Research Notes

Farrell describes George Moore born 1778 as the grandson of William Moore of Tinraheen, which led me to think that William was John's father. However, William was Mary Anne's father.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
