Biography

Nellie Christina Morrissey^[1] was born on 23 December 1899,^[2] in Delaware,^[3][1] to Michael J Morrissey and Ellen Looney.^[1][2]

In 1900 and 1910, she was living with her parents and siblings at 25 Robinson Street, ward 2, Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware. ^{[3] [4]}

In 1920, she was living at 707 Poplar Street, ward 6, Wilmington, New Castle, Delaware, which her parents owned, without a mortgage. She was attending school. ^[5]

She finished eight years of school.^[6]

In 1930, she was living with her parents and siblings at 604 Broom [?] Street, Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware, which her parents owned, and which was worth $5,000. They had a radio. She was a machine hand at a textile mill. ^[7]

On 12 October 1938, she married Walter Gerard Boyd. Walter was a barber; both were living in Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware. ^[1]

In 1940, she was living at 619 Jackson Street, ward 5, Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware, with her husband. She was an operator at a textile mill. She had earned $834 in 52 weeks of work in 1939, and worked 42 hours the week of 24 March 1940. ^[6]

She worked for Joseph Bancroft & Sons (later Wilmington Finishing Company) for 33 years, retiring in the early 1960s as a folder.^[8]

She died at 9.20 AM, on 17 June 1985, in Tilton Terrace Nursing Home, Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware, of cardiac arrest, due to arteriosclerotic heart disease, due to diabetes mellitus. She had lived in the nursing home for six years. She had no immediate survivors. She was buried on 21 June 1985, in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington, Delaware. ^{[2] [8][9]}

   'Nellie M. Boyd, 85, of Tilton Terrace, 801 N. Broom St., formerly of the 1200 block W. Fifth St., died of congestive heart failure Monday at the nursing home, where she had lived for six years.

   'Mrs. Boyd retired in the early 1960s, after 33 years with Joseph Bancroft & Sons Co., now Wilmington Finishing Co.

   'Her husband, Walter G., died in 1978. She leaves no immediate survivors.

   'Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Ninth and Du Pont streets. Friends may call Friday at 9 a.m. in Doherty-Wickersham Funeral Home, 1900 Delaware Ave. Burial will be in Cathedral Cemetery.'
