Biography

David Morton was a South Carolina colonist.
1776 Project
David Morton served with Roebuck's Regiment, South Carolina Militia during the American Revolution.

David, son of John Morton and Jane Peden, was on the James and Mary with his parents, brother John Jr., and sister Elizabeth, and uncle Thomas Peden, making the crossing in late 1767. In January, the family swore aliegence

He married Penelope White, daughter of Moses White. She died in 1819. David then married Mary Jamieson. No children were born to either marriage.

He served in the War of Independence from Spartanburg during 1780. He was in the Battle at Blackstocks Plantation, Battle of King's Mountain and Battle of Cowpens.

The 1840 Census lists him as a Pensioner.

David's estate was finally settled in 1853, with the South Carolina Presbytery receiving the bulk of the estate.

Morton-2385 and Morton-1355 appear to represent the same person because: Ships records have David on the ship with John and Jane, born about 1760. Your David has no birth date, and John and Jane as Parents. Please See my comments in Jane's bio.
