John was born about 1773. Parents being Matthew Morton and Ann Mair.

28th February 1803 John Morton married Henrietta Lindsay, in the Parish of Loudoun, Ayrshire, Scotland

1841 Residence Main Street, Newmilns, Loudoun, Ayrshire. John Morton age 65, occupation Cotton Hand Loom Weaver, birthplace Ayr. Henriata Morton, wife age 60, birthplace recorded as OUC. Children in the household , Jean Morton age 30, Ann Morton age 26, Mary Morton age 24, Jean Morton age 20 and Hugh Morton age 15, occupation Cotton Hand Loom Weaver. All children birthplace Ayr.

1848 John Morton weaver at tounfoot of Neumilns Comonly Called Deef John for a Destincan he was intered in the Same Graff where his Wife was intered in in the Burring Ground belonging to Mr Laurie late at Lanfine
