DNA Confirmation

  • Paternal relationship is confirmed by a triangulated group on MyHeritageDNA who share a 33.3 cM segment on chromosome 12 consisting of Ben Couch, Shirley Reed (Ben’s half 5th cousin 1x removed), and Glynda (Mullens) Curlee (Ben’s 4th cousin 2x removed). Shirley and Glynda are 4th cousins 1x removed. The triangulated group’s most-recent common ancestor is Antonio Molina, the 5x great grandfather of Ben, the 4x great grandfather of Shirley, and the 3x great grandfather of Glynda. DNA test taker Ben Couch is the 2x great grandson of Sophia Mullins, the daughter of John Mullins, the grandson of the common ancestor, Antonio Molina.
  • Paternal and Maternal relationships are both confirmed by an autosomal AncestryDNA test match between Claude Allen Woodall, Jr., and BKHF, his 3rd cousin . Their most-recent common ancestors are John Mullins and Julia Gray, the great great grandparents of both Claude Allen Woodall, Jr., and BKHF. Predicted relationship from AncestryDNA: 2C-3C, based on sharing 95 cM across 6 segments.

Acknowledgements

While DNA ultimately solved the problem, thanks to Alma Euline (Hudspeth) Behm (1926-2019); Mark Lowe, CG, FUGA; and Couch-3906 for their contributions in the collective effort of finding Euline's grandmother, Sophia Frances Mullins, and her family. I don't know the extent of Mark's contributions; however, I do know that he was involved long before I, Couch-3906, came on board. More about the DNA will come.
