Biography

William (Mure) Mure XIIth of Rowallan is a member of Clan Muir.

William was the son of William Mure and Jonet Maxwell[1] born in 1576.

"Sir William Mure succeeded his father and had special service as heir to him in the lands of Townend of Kilmarnock and others, on 10 March 1620. He was also served heir general to his grandfather, John Mure of Rowallan on 3 June 1630, and was knighted by King Charles I in 1633. He died in Jan 1640, it is said 'in the years of his age 63'."[2]

He married firstly, Elizabeth Montgomery about 1593.[3][4] They had issue:

  1. William, the heir[5]
  2. Hugh, preacher at Burstone, Norfolk, England[5]
  3. Marion, Lady Pinkill[5]

He married, secondly, Jeane Porterfield, daughter of the Laird of Duchall.[5] They had issue:

  1. Alexander, of Little Sessnock.[5]

He married thirdly, Sarah Brisbane of the house of Bishoptoun.[5] They had issue:

  1. Margaret, Lady Barrochan[5]
  2. Marie, m. 1st Lord Blantyre, m. end Laird of Bishoptoun, m. 3d Laird of Melgum in Angus.[5]
  3. Jeane, m. Sir John Schaw of Greenock, 1st Baronet[5]
  4. Lillias[5]
  5. Margaret, m. Zacharias Boyd[5]

William passed away in 1639. [1]
