Edward was born between June 1852 and June 1853. He was 23 years old when he married Mary Bannachan on June 2nd 1876, at St John's Chapel, Portugal Street, Glasgow, after banns according to the forms of the Roman Catholic Church. Edward and Mary lived in Gorbals District, Glasgow at the time of the 1881 Census and had 3 children living with them. They had at least 3 more children after that date, Edward Joseph (1883), Elizabeth (1887) and Owen (1891).
