Solomon lived to be 101, and during the last years of his life he was often interviewed for the newspapers. He related his family history: his grandfather, Alexander Mutch, came from Aberdeen and settled in the United States, only to leave because of the American Revolution. His grand-uncle George was killed at Bunker Hill. In 1792, his father James was born just outside of Charlottetown. Solomon was married three times: he was married 53 years to his first wife; his second wife predeceased him; and his third wife believed that his heart stayed with his first wife. He lived 42 years on Prince Edward Island, 16 years in Newfoundland, and he followed two of his sons to British Columbia in 1894. His advice was to "eat sparingly" and to keep active, which he did. Solomon didn't think much of modern women, and he didn't think that airplanes would last.
