Biography

Hypolite Naquin was born on May 6, 1808 in Donaldsonville, Ascension, Louisiana, son of Jean Charles Naquin (~1771–1820) and Madelaine Leboeuf (~1780– ).[1]

Hypolite (18) married Marguerite Celeste LeBlanc (18) (born on October 17, 1807 in Assumption, Louisiana, New Spain; daughter of Jean Martin LeBlanc and Marie Céleste Pitre) on September 28, 1826 in Terrebonne. [2] Their children were:

  • Celeste Henriette (1829–1893)
  • Michel (1831– )
  • Jean Maximim (1834–1918)[3]
  • Felician Hyppolite Naquin (~1854–1941)
  • Marguerite Virginie Rosalie (1840– )

  • Elisabeth Malvina (1846– )

Hypolite (41) married Jeanne Adeline Trahan (33) (born on April 2, 1816 in Plattenville, Assumption, Louisiana; daughter of Francois Marie Trahan and Josephe Aimee Amanda Thibodeau) on June 25, 1849 in Houma, Terrebonne. [5] Their children were:

  • Felicien Hypolite (a854-19141)
  • Mathilde Orillia (1857- )
  • Julia Marie (1858-1883)

In the 1850 census Hypolite Naquin (age 48), farmer, real estate $600, lived with hhis second wife, Adeline (age 34) in Terrebonne parish, Terrebonne, Louisiana, United States. Hypolite's sons, Michel (age 19, Maximus (age 15), Hypolite (age 11), Kermine (age 7), daughters. Virginie (age 10), Melanie (age 5) lived in the blended household. Emee Thibodaux (age 60), Hypolite's mother-in-law, lived with the family. Adeline's sons Joseph Leo Use (age 10), Clerville Use (age 5), daughters, Victorine Use (age 9), Azema Use (age 7) lived in the blended houshold. [6]

In the 1860 census Hypolite Naquin (age 48), farmer, real estate $1,800, personal property $500 lived with his second wife, Adeline (age 46), their sons Neuville (age 8), Felicien (age 6), their daughter, Julie (age 2), in Terrebonne parish, Terrebonne, Louisiana, United States. Adeline's son Clerville (Use) Naquin (age 15), lived in the blended houshold. Hypolite's sons, Hypolite (age 22), Onezime (age 16), his daughter, Melanie (age 14) lived in the blended household. Neither Hypolite nor Adeline could read or write. [7]

In the 1870 census Hypolite (age 60), head of household farmer, real estate $1,500, personal property $250, lived with his second wife, Adeline (age 46), their sons Neuville (age 18), Felicien (age 16), their daughter, Julie (age 12) in Terrebonne, Louisiana, United States. Azema (Use) Naquin, (age 26) Adeline's daughter lived at home.[8]

Hypolite died on July 28, 1874 in Louisiana, United States, aged 66. He was buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Montegut, Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana.[9]
