Biography
Children of John Davis and Alice _____, assuming she was his first wife and the mother of his children,[1]
- James who was born about 1636 and died at Gloucester on May 1, 1715 at the age of 69 years. He married 1st about 1658 to Mehitable (_____) who died June 9, 1666. Married 2nd to Elizabeth Batchelder of Wenham who died January 1, 1697. Married 3rd to Mary (Collins) Ellwell Cook on August 3, 1697; she was the daughter of John Collins and widow of Josiah Ellwell and John Cook.
- Jacob born about 140 and died September 2, 1685 at Gloucester. M. Elizabeth Bennett on January 20, 1661.
- possible John who was known as "Jr." of Gloucester and took the oath of fidelity in 1677.
John's wife, Alice, had died in Gloucester on December 10, 1682 and he married (2nd) to Frances (_____) Davis.

Her identify as Alice "Newman" seems lacking a credible source.
Ferris reports "Eals Davis" died at Gloucester, 10 December 1682, as "very likely the wife of John Davis." That association is supported by a deed about which Ferris comments.
Ferris didn't rule out that John's children were born to an earlier wife. Her preface to the child list reads, "The known children of John David and probably wife Alice, .... "
