Biography

Helen, born in 1892, was the daughter of Logan Newsom and Sallie Monypeny. In 1912 her mother and stepfather, Richard Beckwith, took Helen on a trip to Europe, partly to discourage the romance between Helen and Karl H. Behr. They boarded the Titanic at Southampton for their return voyage and, much to Helen's delight, Karl boarded at Cherbourg. All four were rescued in lifeboat 5.[1]

Helen and Karl were married in 1913.[2] In 1920 they lived in Manhattan with their two sons, Karl Jr. and Peter.[3] By 1930 a son, James, and a daughter, Sally, had joined the family.[4][5] After Karl's death, Helen married his friend, Dean Mathey.[6]
