Merwin Arthur Nichols was born on 26 Sep. 1915^[1] at Wisconsin, USA. He, and his parents, appeared on the census of 17 Jan. 1920 in the household of his grandparents, George T. Godden and Etta (--?--) Godden, at 1230 Dayton St., Madison, Dane Co., Wisconsin.^[2] He appeared on the census of 16 April 1930 in the household of his parents, Arthur Henry Nichols and Florence (Godden) Nichols, at Madison, Dane Co., Wisconsin.^[3] He was an office clerk at an insurance office when he appeared on the census of 8 April 1940 in the household of his parents at Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin.^[4] He began military service in the US Navy on 7 Jan. 1942. He ended military service on 4 Oct. 1945.^[5]

He lived in 1984 at Madison, Dane Co., Wisconsin. Merwin died on 15 July 1985^[1] at age 69, probably in Dane County, and was buried at Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin. His memorial has his date of death.^[6]
