Biography

William Nisbet son of William, Thomas Nisbet (~1823–1862) and Margaret Houston (1811–1892). was born on 19 September 1844 and baptised on 1 December 1844 in , Old Monkland, Lanark, Scotland.^[1]

In the 1851 census William (age 7), Scholar, was the son of Thomas Nisbet in Stonecraigs Row, 23, Cambusnethan, Middle Ward, Lanarkshire, Scotland.^[2]

In the 1861 census William (age 16), Coal miner, was the unmarried son of Thomas Nisbet in Morningside Village, Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire, Scotland.^[3]

William (21) married Janet Govan (21) (born in 1844) on June 1, 1866 in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire. Janet was the daughter of David Govan and Janet Hamilton. Neither of them could write so others signed for them. At the time of the marriage William's father was deceased. Their child:

William died on 19 Dec 1908 at 10 Caldervale, Blantyre, Strathclyde, Scotland, aged 58. Cause of death, Supposed heart failure, his nephew Thomas Mills of 8 Crafthead Street, Haddington signed the document.

Research notes

Their child Robert who was born in England according to the 1901 census requires some investigation, strange that they went through the majority of their marriage without children, then at the age of 49 Janet gives birth, not in Scotland but in England.
