"BIRTH-DEATH:Tombstone inscription: Mt. Zion Cemetery, Trinity Co., TX.
"NOTE: There are apparently two tombstones for Sarah Ann, one in the Everett Community (aka Floyd) Cemetery, Simpson Co., MS (off Hwy 13, Sec 7 T2NR5E) and one in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Trinity Co, TX. Inscription from Everett Community Cemetery: "Sarah Ann Norris, wife of David Womack, Jr, 1789-1870". Inscription from Mt. Zion: "Sarah Womack, wife of David Womack, born January 1, 1789, died December 12, 1858, mother of 12 children all raised to be grown consistent members of the church for 40 years." This latter was a GenForum message from Karen Deatherage dated 4 June 2006 and referencing HISTORY of TRINITY COUNTY, p 811, story by Madie M. Murphy Womack. Amy Wood-McCroskie, Greenville, TX essentially stated the same thing, but included the story of her trip by wagon train about 1855. Obviously one of the "graves" is not, indeed, her grave site. The stone at Everett Cemetery is adjacent to her husband, David, BUT, considering the story of her move to Texas and my inability to find Sarah Womack in MS after 1850, she is PROBABLY buried in Trinity Co, TX. Who erected the stone in Everett Cemetery and why?[RGC]"
From Amy Wood-McCroskie, Greenville, TX:
"Part of the wagon train on this trip included the Womack family. Legend has it that the matriarch, Sarah Womack, then a widow, did not want to leave Mississippi. In defiance of the move, she walked most of the way to Texas, refusing to participate in the move by riding in the wagons. That woman is buried in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Trinity County, Texas. She purchased land then set aside a small parcel for the church and cemetery. She was one of the first ones buried there along with some of my Richardson family even though she did not live in Texas that long. Most of David Womack and Sarah Norris Womack's children moved to Trinity County, Texas so it would fit that they brought their mother with them. There was no family left in MS to care for her, although if she walked to Texas as the legend says, I doubt she needed a lot of care! She must have been an incredible woman."
