Mary Ann Oakes was born on 29 Jul 1895 in White Haven, Luzerne, Pennsylvania. She was the sixth of nine children, and the first daughter, born to Elizabeth Schrader and Richard Oakes. In 1900 she lived in Dennison Township, Luzerne, Pennsylvania with her parents and seven siblings.[1] On 4 Jun 1917 she married Matthew Stribaugh in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne, Pennsylvania. Their two sons and Mary's widowed mother lived with them.[4]
