Biography
Birth Stephen Oates was born in 1785 in Sampson County, North Carolina. He was one of nine children born to James and Mary Ann (Wiggins) Oates.[1]
Marriage Steven marries Elizabeth Ann (Shipp) Oates (1789-1866) around 1807. Children:

On 1 October 1800, a bill of sale was arranged between him and his grandfather Thomas Wiggins[2]
Death Steven passes away in 1938 in Sampson County, North Carolina. According to a History of the Oates Family written by Charles Spencer Oates in 1937, Stephen Oates died and was buried in the Carolina Hills not far from the divide between the Neuse and Cape Fear Rivers.[1]
