Emma was born in 1882[1] the second daughter of Alexander Ogg and Mary Hughes.
In 1904[2] she married Thomas Butterworth in Charleston and they had twelve children together of which one died when three years old.
After the birth of their first son, Thomas, Emma and Thomas moved to Westport where the remained till their death.
In 1951 Emma and Thomas divorced.[1]. It must have been an amicable divorce since Thomas named her a beneficiary in his will.
After the divorce Emma lived at Luff Street in Westport until her death in 1969[3] and is interred at Orowaiti New Cemetery in Westport.
