Biography

Research Notes

  • Her birth and death information come from her Find-a-Grave memorial; however, there is no source information. Her birth date and her husband's birthdate don't click. I've seen her birthdate anywhere from 1762 to 1784, and his is from 1775 to 1784. Their marriage date is shown as 1792, but there is no source information, and that certainly doesn't match well with the later birthdates. Additional research needs to be done to confirm dates and locations. Her father's[1] and mother's[2] memorials give considerable information about their homestead and include her father's last will & testament. So, that's helps to confirm that she was born in Fayette County, Pennsylvania.[3]
  • Powell says that Jane was "born in Ireland," but this is likely incorrect because her father, James Orr, came to America before 1761, which is when he married his wife, Mary Dale. They were first in Maryland, but they moved to Pennsylvania in the mid-1780s. So, it's unclear whether Jane was born in Maryland or Pennsylvania.[3][4]
  • 16 Sep 2016 Updated information from Steve Courson shows a more accurate birth date and location and a full date of death and location.[5]
    • 5 Sep 2021 Isaac and Jane are listed in the 1860 census in Bowling Green Township, Licking County, Ohio; however, Jane is listed as "Ginna," and her birthplace is given as Pennsylvania instead of Maryland.[6] -- Fiscus-32 13:29, 5 September 2021 (UTC)

That would be great, Cari! I need to get to the library, too. I don't have an Ancestry membership. There is also a Family History Center about 15-20 mins away. I haven't visited there yet, but I bet they would have more reliable information that would be helpful. I'll try to get there in the next week or so.
I've built this from information from all over FamilySearch and Ancestry. I can't access Ancestry when I'm not at work (I work at the public library), so I will see if there is a source there this week. I didn't see anything immediately on FamilySearch.
