Thomas Orr, tenth eldest of the eleven known children of Thomas Orr and Agnes Smart, was born in Pleasant Ridge, Saint Patrick Parish, Charlotte County, New Brunswick, 20 Oct 1850.[3] New Brunswick was at the time a British Colony, and it remained so until 1867, becoming that year one of Canada's four founding provinces.[4] As for Pleasant Ridge, a tiny, rural community along the New Brunswick's Magaguadavic River,[5] it was part of Saint Patrick Parish until 1856, when Dumbarton Parish was formed from Saint Patrick's northern half.[6]

In 1851, three month-old Thomas resided in a frame house in Pleasant Ridge, in Saint Patrick Parish, with his parents and nine of his siblings.[18] His father did not survive the 1852 birth of his sister, Sarah, by long, dying in Pleasant Ridge, 16 Jul 1854, at age 46.[19]
Thomas lost two siblings in the 1860s: his sister, Margaret, died in Pomeroy Ridge, New Brunswick, in 1862, at age 27,[8] and his brother, David, died in Pleasant Ridge in 1866, at age 22).[14]
Thomas's sister, Ellen, died in Alexander, Maine, in 1882, at age 46.[10] In the first two decades of the 1900s, Thomas lost four more siblings: his sister, Mary, died in Bancroft, Maine, in 1901, at age 65,[9] his brother, James, died in Wilson County, Kansas, in 1913, at age 70,[13] his sister, Elizabeth, died in Seattle, Washington, in 1919, at age 78,[12] and his brother, Peter, died in Seattle in 1920, at age 74.[15]
Thomas died of "senility" in the town of Saint Andrew, in Saint Andrew Parish, 22 May 1934, at age 83.[20] He's buried in Rolling Dam Baptist Cemetery, in Rollingdam, Charlotte County, New Brunswick.[20]
Thomas was survived by at least two (and perhaps three - Agnes's death date isn't known[11]) of his eleven known siblings (listed here in order of their deaths): Sarah (who died in Leverville, New Brunswick, in 1936, at age 84),[17] and Hannah (who died in New Brunswick in 1942, at about age 94).[16]
