Joseph Overman was born on the 20th day of the 12th month of 1712 (20 Feb 1712/13) to Jacob Overman and Rebecca Newby in Pasquotank Precinct, Proprietary of Carolina.[1]
On the 4th day of the 8th month of 1738 (4 Oct 1738) Joseph Overman and Sarah Griffin appeared before the Perquimans Monthly Meeting declaring their intent to take each other in marriage.[2] On the 1st day of the 9th month of 1738. Joseph and Sarah appeared before the Perquimans Monthly Meeting for a second time. Joseph produced a certificate from the Little River Meeting attesting to his clearness for marriage. The Meeting finding no impediments, grants the couple leave to marry.[3]
