Biography

Life in England

Anna Palgrave is the daughter of Joan Harris and Richard Palgrave. She was baptized at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England on 29 October 1626. [1] The church where she was baptized is yet unknown, but may have been St. Nicholas, Great Yarmouth, a church which at the time had been subdivided into Puritan, Anglican, and Presbyterian sections. Her father died prior to 1637, as her mother was married by then to Rev. John Young of Southwold, England.

Immigration

"They came to Salem, Mass., in 1637, prior to 14 Aug. of that year, bringing with them Joan's daughter by her first husband, Anne Palgrave. This Anne subsequently married Nicholas Woodbury in 1651 at Salem. She brought her husband her father's property at Great Yarmouth (cf. Boston Evening Transcript, Genealogical Section, 29 Sept. 1930)."[1] While not explicitly named, she is likely the Anne listed in her stepfather John Yonges' group that sailed to Massachusetts aboard the Mary Anne when she was eleven years old.

Life in Massachusetts

Anna's mother had died by 1639. Her stepfather and his family left Salem in 1640, but 14 y.o. Anna did not accompany the family. With whom did she reside?

She married Nicholas Woodbury in Salem, Massachusetts in 1651.[citation needed]

Anna Palgrave Woodbury died 10 June 1701 in Beverly, Essex, Massachusetts at the age of 74 and is buried in Abbott Street Burial Ground.[2]

Palgrave-62 and Palgrave-25 appear to represent the same person because: Palgrave-62 and Palgrave-25 have the same birth date, the same death date, and are married to the same man. Most of the references I've seen on the internet refer to the wife of Nicholas Woodbury as "Anna" Palgrave or Paulsgrave, without the name Elizabeth.
