Biography

John was born in 1759. [1] He was the son of George Parker and Mary Vance.[2] At the time of his birth, his father owned land in St. Georges Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware.

John migrated to South Carolina with his brothers, George, Benjamin, and Samuel.

John first married Mary Lockerman.[2]

John Parker married Martha Daniel, Spinster, daughter of Robert Daniel, late of Charles, Gentleman, deceased, before 1791. On the 13th day of August 1791 John Parker of the city of Charleston, Planter, and Martha his wife (late Martha Daniel Spinster one of the Daughters and Devisees of Robert Daniel late of Charleston aforesaid, Gentleman Deceased) and Elizabeth Russ Daniel of the said city Spinster, another daughter and devisee, sold to Sarah Lawrence of Charleston aforesaid widow, also a daughter and devisee of the said Robert Daniel deceased, their two thirds part of 540 acres of land lying and being in the Parish of Saint Thomas and Saint Dennis butting and bounding NW on land of William Capers NE on land of Alexander Chovin and SE and SW on land of Colonel Thomas Screven.[3]

John Parker, of Charleston set his hand and seal to his Last Will and Testament on the 22nd day of May 1799 making special bequests to:

  • wife Martha Parker...
  • children Mary, John and Robert, and to the child or children my wife is now pregnant with the sum of $500.00...
  • rest residue and remainder of my estate equally divided between and amongst my said wife Martha and my children Rachael, Mary, John, and Robert, and such other child or children of mine as may be herein after named...
  • brothers, George, Benjamin and Samuel, Guardians of the persons and Estate of all my children, during their respective Minorities.
  • together with my wife and my friends Charles Snowden and Thomas Winstanley Executors and Executrix

The will was proved on the 7th of May 1806, and at the same time Benjamin Parker qualified as Executor.[4]

The Parish Register of St. Thomas and St. Denis Parish recorded that John Parker died the 3rd of February 1804, at age 45, and was buried at the Brick Church.[1]
