Jared Patchen (Asahel, Jacob, Joseph) was born April 18, 1776, probably in Redding, Connecticut. He was the son of Asahel Patchen and Hannah Osborn, daughter of William Osborn of Redding. [1][2]
He married September 11, 1797 to Azubah Tiffany, daughter of Samuel and Abigail (Curtis) Tiffany.
His wife’s sister, Mary Tiffany married Daniel Whipple. In the autobiography of their son, Nelson, he wrote of Jared Patchen:
The first knowledge I had of him was in the year 1828. At that time my father moved into the county where he resided in the state of New York, town of Newfield, Tompkins County. We found him living on a good farm in the midst of plenty. He was an honest, industrious man and respected in society by all classes. He was good to the poor and kind to his family and provided amply for them, though his wife did not duly appreciate it as she ought. He was justice of the peace for many years in the town where he lived and held other offices.[3]
Jared Patchen was an Assemblyman from New York. He was Supervisor of the Town of Cayuta, 1812-1821, and Commissioner of Highways in 1822.
He was the father of eleven children:
Martin Roy, b. Feb 10, 1799
Abigail, b. Jan 23, 1801
John, b. Jan 14, 1803
Ira, b. Jan 20, 1805
