Biography

John was the son of Susan Annie Hall and John Bonelba Payton.

He worked as a Engineer and later an Engine Driver, in the Wellington district.

In 1907 he married Mary Ann Hawthorn, Irish immigrant, at his parent's home in Wellington.

One known child was born in their marriage, Muriel Coffey.

John was called up in the 1917 WWI Reserve Ballot - 2nd Division.

Mary Ann died 20 years later in 1927, age 50. The following year John remarried to widow, Alice Camelia (nee Farmer) Price. The marriage didn't last and they divorced in 1949.

John died age 78 and was cremated at Karori, Wellington.
