John was born in 1879. He is the son of Montagu Pegus and Jessie Anderson. [1]

The death occurred suddenly at his residence, North Terrace, Burnie, in the early hours of Sunday morning, of Mr. John Sydney Wroughton Pegus, at the age of 6O years. The late Mr. Pegus, who was well known in the town, and surrounding districts, was born at Hobart, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Montague Pegus. He lived in Hobart for about ten years, going from there to Rosegarland East Coast. From there he moved to Sulphur Creek, where he enlisted for the South African war. After a short stay at Yolla he went to Burnie about 20 years ago. He was a member of the Burnie Masonic Lodge. He leaves a widow; two daughters, Eileen (Mrs. L. Brumby, Burnie) and Beryl (Mrs. J. Cathro, Devonport); and two sons, Messrs. Lloyd (Upper Burnie) and Douglas (Burnie) ; a brother, Mr. W. S. Pegus (Burnie), and two half-sisters, Mrs. M. Nicholls (Sydney) and Miss D. Lade (Sydney).John, service number 2032 was a Bugler in the Boer War and he was with the 3rd Battalion Australian Commonwealth Horse.
John died at the age of 60 on 24 December 1939 in Burnie,, Tasmania, Australia. He was buried in the Wivenhoe General Cemetery, Burnie.[2]
