Constance Campbell Petrie was born in 1873 at Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. She was the sixth and youngest daughter of Thomas Petrie, an explorer and grazier, and Elizabeth Campbell.[1][2] Her father purchased 6,400 acres (2,600 ha) of land in the Pine Rivers region north of Brisbane that he named Murrumba, meaning 'good place' (after his death the area was named Petrie). His being active on a number of local government boards their home was the focus of local social life and and the gardens a grand reputation for plant and birdlife.[3]

In 1904, Constance published Tom Petrie's Reminiscences of Early Queensland, written in collaboration with her father. The book is regarded as one of the best authorities on Brisbane's early days, containing a great deal of valuable Aboriginal folk lore and information.[4] Her beloved father died in 1910.

Aged 45 years, Constance married George Stuart, manager of the Union Bank of Australia in Brisbane, in 1918 at Brisbane.[5] They made their home at Dundalli, Old Sandgate Road, Clayfield, at inner northern suburb of Brisbane.[2] They had no children.

She passed away, aged 53 years, on 4th July 1926 at Brisbane;[6] less than three months before her mother. She is buried in the Brisbane General Cemetery, Toowong. Constance had been invalided with illness for some time prior.[7][8]
