Betty Lou Long, 77, Colfax resident, passed away June 11, 2008 at her daughter’s home in Spokane where she had been living for the past year. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 18th at 11:00 AM in the Colfax Cemetery. Pastor Bob Ingalls will officiate.
Betty was born December 8, 1930 in Crane, Texas to Jacob and Naomi Phillips. She grew up in Texas and attended school there. As a young lady, she moved to Colfax after exchanging correspondence with a young man who lived there. She married M. Lem Long at Almota, WA. June 15, 1958. They made their home in Colfax for nearly fifty years while Lem enjoyed a long career with the railroad and later the City of Colfax. Betty kept busy as a homemaker and mother. She enjoyed cooking, loved to crochet and was a good painter. She also liked the sounds of Big Band music. Following the death of her husband in March 2007, Betty moved to Spokane to live with her daughter and family.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Terry Hurst of Spokane and a grandson, Jason Long of Colfax as well as a sister, Linda Palmer of Gilmer, TX. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Spokane.
