Biography
Mary Philpott was a daughter of Charles Philpott and Elizabeth Barton Smoot of Charles County, Maryland. Almost no information is known about her, therefore her birth date can only be estimated as sometime between about 1730 and 1745.
The only evidence of Mary comes from a Philpott family sketch written by Henry L. Ludlow about 1890.[1][2] Henry Ludlow was a descendant of Charles and Elizabeth B. Philpott’s son, William Philpott. He wrote a sketch based on the memories of Reuben Davis, a son-in-law of Charles and Elizabeth B. Philpott’s grandson, Charles Philpott Taylor. Mr. Ludlow did not explain, in his sketch, how the information had been passed down to him from Reuben Davis. In his sketch, Mr. Ludlow wrote that Charles and Elizabeth B. Philpott were the parents of four daughters — Eleanor, Elizabeth, Susan and Mary:
- ”Of the four daughters of Charles and Elizabeth Philpott, we find no record of what became of Mary.” (Appendix I)[2]
No further information is known.
- HOWEVER, we did find this "Mary Philpot" in Baltimore, Maryland, right age...and just 68.5 miles north.......
