Disputed Name

Cokayne's Complete Baronetage gives his name as Frederick Pilkington. This appears to be incorrect. Other reputable sources agree that it was Thomas. See the discussion in soc.medieval.genealogy here (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/soc.genealogy.medieval/MpYMek8AzZc) for more information.

Biography

Thomas Pilkington of Stanley, Yorkshire, was born after 1544 (was not yet 21 in 1565).[1] Since his mother was born in 1538, a reasonable estimate is 1560.

Thomas married Frances Rhodes, daughter of Francis, Judge of Common Pleas, as his first wife. They had at least two children:[1]

  • Arthur 1590
  • Mary, married Sir Fernando Leigh (or Lee) of Middleton, co. York.[2]

Thomas Pilkington died 14 sep 1611.[1]

Did Sir Ferdinando Leigh (Lee) also marry Elizabeth, dau. of Robert Tyrwhitt & Ann, dau. of Edward Bassett?
