In January of 1973, Etta wrote a letter to Jeanne Pierce in which she recounted some of what she recalled concerning her family history:
"Grandmother Pierce, of Vermont (a Miss Skinner), moved with their family to Valparaiso, Indiana; later married William Pierce, a Railroad man. They had 3 children: Hollis, Kizzie, and my Mother, named after her father, Willhimina. She was only 3 weeks old when the Father was killed on the R.R., leaving Grandma Pierce with 3 children. She taught school all her life, as did your Grandfather Hollis and Aunt Kizzie, as soon as they finished school."
"When Mother was 16 Grandma left Indiana and took up a homestead in North Central Minnesota, near Detroit, Pelican Rapids, and Merregha, where they all lived, and taught, until they married. Hollis met and married May Lincoln. Some years later they moved to Bemidji and bought a small farm, near my folks."
"Mother married in 1864 to my father, Acton Moody Plummer. He was a very good and religious man, died when he was 46 (typhoid fever), when I was only 13. At 19 years, I married my husband, Edward Bishop and we moved out west to Spokane, and Bonners Ferry, Idaho, where he worked 46 years for the Spokane Int. R. R. After his retirement, we moved to Acme, Wash.,to be near our son Gordon, who had been in the Navy 21 years, a Lt., and wanted us to live near him; he had settled there."
Etta was born 10 June 1888 in Park Rapids, Minnesota, the daughter of Act Plummer and Minnie Pierce.[1]
Her father died in 1903 when Etta was 15 years old.
Four years later, Etta married Edward Glass Bishop 24 August 1907 in Bemidji, Minnesota.[2] They were the parents of six children: Beryl (1908-1996); Cherry (1911-1911); Benjamin Acton (1914-1993); Gordon Edward (1917-2004); Constance Ruth (1921-2002); and Lenore Louise (1923-2004).
Edward died at Acme, Washington at the age of eight-two; Etta died a few years later 22 January 1978 at Sedro Woolley, Washington, at the age of eighty-nine.[3][4]
