Pontus, or more nearly Pont, is apparently a variation of du Pont, originating from Western Europe, France. I believe it was in the area of Normandy. The du Pont family may have fled to Leiden because they were persecuted Hugeunots, first to the area of Belgium, where they may have been welcomed by the Flemish, the ethnic Dutch and then to Leiden in the Netherlands. The Dutch were protestants, while the Walloons were papists and would have been antagonistic to the Heugonots, a motive for continued migration. The geographic Belgium was in political turmoil at the time. I need help in confirming this theory of the du Post family. My DNA test shows modern day Dupont as a match. Lastly, Wikitree shows Pontus/Pont associated with Dupont.
